Concordia Foundation Inc. Instrumental in the Creation of the WNY Tombstone Trail 250
The WNY Tombstone Trail 250, a regional initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, has been launched by the Concordia Foundation Inc. in partnership with the Erie County Historical Commission, with support from Erie County.
This unique project highlights 26 historic cemeteries across Erie County and Western New York as “living museums,” where the stories of immigrants, workers, veterans, and community builders come to life. Through guided tours, educational programs, and public history events, visitors will explore the people and experiences that shaped our region and the nation. The Trail will be active from Memorial Day through Veterans Day, 2026.
As part of the Erie County Historical Commission’s “We the People” Committee for the 2026 Semiquincentennial, the Trail aims to foster historical understanding, cultural appreciation, and civic pride by connecting the past to the present through the powerful stories preserved in these sacred spaces.
